What’s the point of running an ad if it’s not going to turn a few heads?

The only time traffic is a good thing? When it’s your ad that’s causing the jam. Show-stopping ads all have one thing in common: they’re visually arresting, memorable, and a little weird.

Draw inspiration from these 13 unique, eye-catching billboards that quite literally stopped traffic.

1. Colorado State Patrol

This clever PSA stopped drivers in their tracks by displaying the potential consequences of tailgating on the highway.

2. Chick-fil-A

The Chick-fil-A cows have become so iconic over the years that just driving by one of these famous billboards can trigger intense cravings for chicken nuggets and waffle fries.

3. Miele

It’s hard to think of something more attention-grabbing than an enormous vacuum sucking a hot air balloon out of the sky. Although this billboard never made it past the creative concept stage, it sure made us look twice.

4. Berger

Berger shows off its newest line of paint colors by incorporating the precise shade of the sky into its billboard.

5. Maker’s Mark

This larger-than-life billboard brings Maker’s Mark’s hand-dipped bottles of Kentucky Bourbon to life. If that doesn’t make you want a drink, nothing will.

6. Air Asia

Air Asia plays up the frequent mispronunciation of a popular Asian city, encouraging travel lovers to book a flight to Phuket (FYI, it’s pronounced Poo-ket).

7. McDonald’s

This McDonald’s billboard lures hungry drivers straight to the fast food line for a Big Mac.

8. Mammoth

The confines of billboard space can be limiting, but Mammoth found a way to break the boundaries with this simple (but highly impactful) display.

9. Nestle

It’s hard not to stop and stare when you see a flock of birds lifting 30-foot-long chocolate bars into the sky.

10. Royals

This action-packed billboard features two Royals players warming up before a big game. Longing for peanuts and Cracker Jack yet?

11. Kit Kat

Kit Kat cashed in on its well-known slogan by featuring a scarily lifelike depiction of a truck driver enjoying the chocolate candy while laying on a hammock.

12. Imodium

Perhaps one of the most relatable images ever, this giant 3D toilet paper ring is also visually arresting.

13. Kalins Indoor Comfort

Last but certainly not least: Kalins Indoor Comfort takes a humorous approach to billboard marketing with this clever play on words.
